What is a browser fingerprint?

A browser fingerprint is the mix of details a browser reveals, such as screen size, fonts and graphics card, that together single it out.

Each detail alone is common. Together they are close to unique: the exact browser version, the time zone, the list of fonts, how the graphics card draws a test image. A site can recognise the same browser again without any cookie.

A proxy changes the IP address and nothing else, so two accounts opened from one browser through two proxies still share a fingerprint. Keeping accounts apart takes both: a separate fingerprint and a separate address for each.
